SITI CROOK

DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR

EAST FALLOWFIELD TOWNSHIP SUPERVISOR, 2008

I'd like to introduce myself. I am Siti Crook, your Democratic candidate for East Fallowfield Township Supervisor. You may have met me last year as I went door to door campaigning for township supervisor in the 2007 election. Although I didn't get to serve in that office, I am proud to say that my idea and concerns have made it into policy.

You see, one of my biggest concerns, then and now, is that we residents be assured that our growing township get the benefits of a professional, certified manager. It is just not fiscally responsible to put the management of the millions of dollars in our township budget into the hands of a part-time, elected board.

Now, one year later, a current supervisor who vehemently opposed my position in last year's election sees the wisdom of my idea and the township is now in the process of hiring a professional manager. This is an investment in our township that will pay for itself many times over through more efficient management and expanded opportunities to research new funding.

If you look into the 2008 expenditures, you will see proof of my concerns. According to the July 31, 2008 treasurer's report, legal expenses were 184.52% over budget. Much of this money has been spent fighting issues that have already been resolved. Since, by law, our township cannot operate at a deficit, the money spent on legal fees had to come from somewhere else in the budget.

As many of you know, the budget for our police department was cut this year. As residents of the township, you need to decide how you want this money spent...on legal fees or on direct services that benefit all residents?

Money to support our township comes from two main areas: employee taxes and construction fees and permits. Given the current economy, these revenues will be drastically reduced in the coming months. It is imperative that we operate efficiently and look for new sources of funding so that we can provide adequate services to township residents.

I have already identified one area where we can look to meet both of these goals. By seeking out and applying for grants to improve the energy efficiency of our township properties, we can upgrade our facilities using grant money and reduce our energy use, thus saving on operating costs.

I am a mother, business owner and long time resident of the township. I want only what you and your neighbors want: to feel safe, secure, and provide an atmosphere where we come together to support ourselves in the challenging months to come.

I am confident, that working together, we can move forward, resolve our differences, and even prosper during the months ahead.

If elected, I promise you I will bring foresight and fiscal responsibility to the office of East Fallowfield Township Supervisor.

Thank you for your support and consideration
